Principal
Christopher B. Powers, CPA
Responsibilities
Mr. Powers is a Principal, and Director of Miller Cooper’s Nonprofit Services Group. In addition to handling the accounting and audit needs of his clients, he consults with clients regarding planning and various organizational matters. Mr. Powers joined Miller Cooper in 1984.
Relevant Experience
Mr. Powers services diverse nonprofit and business clients. His nonprofit clients include some of the midwest’s finest educational institutions, religious organizations, professional associations, social service organizations, risk management pools, charitable organizations and membership associations. Chris’ development and leadership of the semi-annual Nonprofit Roundtable seminars provides clients with comprehensive exposure to the most pressing issues that impact nonprofit entities. Additionally, Chris continues to lead the audit engagements of numerous businesses in the manufacturing and service industries.
Education and Professional Activities
Mr. Powers received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He also received a Master of Science degree in Accountancy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and a Master of Business Administration degree with concentrations in marketing and management planning from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Mr. Powers is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. He has served on several committees for the Illinois CPA Society and presented various professional continuing education seminars to nonprofit organizations including the Association Forum, American Bar Association, Council for Nonprofit Innovation, and the Commercial Law League of America. Mr. Powers is a former chairman of the Nonprofit and Government Services Committee of CPA Associates International, Inc., which is a membership organization consisting of 70 local accounting firms similar in stature to Miller Cooper. He also serves on various nonprofit boards and the Editorial Committee of Association Forum’s monthly publication.
