Irwin A. Lyons, CPA

Responsibilities
Mr. Lyons has extensive experience in accounting, auditing and reporting procedures for municipal governments and nonprofits during his 30 years of public accounting experience. He has serviced numerous cities, townships, school and park districts, and provided outstanding direction from tax strategies to cost containment suggestions.

Relevant Experience
Mr. Lyons has significant expertise with GASB #34 issues. He helped the Illinois CPA Society and the Illinois GFOA develop responses to exposure drafts relating to the issuance of GASB #34. He has conducted seminars on implementation issues across a wide range of accounting-related and compliance procedures. Irwin has extensive experience with Single Audits, and consulting for Illinois government units. Projects have included fee studies, litigation support, contract compliance, system selection and strategic IT planning.

Education and Professional Activities
Irwin graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He earned his MBA in finance from DePaul University. Mr. Lyons is licensed CPA, and a member of ICPAS and the American Institute of Certified Professional Accountants. Irwin has held extensive leadership positions with the Illinois CPA Society including past Chair of the Government Accounting Executive Committee, Chairman of the Local Government Auditing and Accounting Committee, and Chairman of Governmental Technical Standards Section of the Ethics Committee. Mr. Lyons has served as an instructor for numerous Governmental Accounting programs, and continues to be a guest speaker throughout Illinois for various professional associations.
